Self-portrait (1953)
I have had a dream last night. I saw Valentin Massov. He was 16. He was young and impetuous.
"You'll be famous soon," I said him.
I do not know how this is possible.
I saw him such as he had been a long ago.
I knew it was true and that he was such as I saw him in my slumber.
A boy with soul of child. You have lived a hard life but you have not sold your soul.
My dream was reality and I was shocked.
